Background:

St Alban's RC High School serves the area in and around Pontypool and Cwmbran. Many students come from as far away as Blackwood in west and Abergavenny in north. The school opened in 1963 on site in Pontypool Park on edge of Brecon Beacons. The school offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities including rugby, football and athletics as well as the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. Performing arts is schools strength and there is an orchestra, various bands and choirs, all of which perform at school concerts. The school also has a state-of-the-art recording studio. Over the past years the school has raised a great deal for local and national charities. The school has recently become a centre of excellence, certified as a CISCO academy in 2003 and a Microsoft Academy in 2004. The school aims to provide a happy and secure environment based on Gospel Values in which the whole needs of the pupil's can be served in preparing him to take his place in society as a young Catholic Christian.
